'''1.1 EXPANSION OF THE NETWORK WITH VOIP AND SERVICES TO BE MADE AVAILABLE ON THE NETWORK'''

The first issue regarding the future of such a project is clearly the deployment of the network. Although the final goal of such a project is not the network itself but all services that can be made available by using computer technology and their impact in the educational process, if there is no basic connectivity infrastructure, it will just not be possible to deliver those services. We would be speaking of a transport system that has no roads.

Although the first step of such a project in to put in place a physical network, and then adding services on top of this network.

The expansion of the network will have to consider introducing the VoIP and services for education application. It is in progress getting two servers one for VoIP with VoIP application Asterisk and another one for application server which will run DNS Server, Proxy Server, mail Server, Web Server and OpenExchange to share agenda, projects, publications, news, forum on-line, etc.

Regarding the province of Inhambane the districts of Homoine, Maxixe, Morrumbene, Chicuque, Massinga and Jangamo, are good candidates for the next phase. These districts altogether have a total of about 15 schools that could potentially integrate the network within a maximum distance of 70Km (Massinga district). The Massinga district appears to be of great interest as it is the most populated district of the Inhambane province.

There are some secondary Schools, Technical and CFPP in Chicuque as well as Hospital and Health colleague interested to connect through wireless.
The GoogleEarth view is presented in the figure below show how they could be connected with clear line of side between CFPP of Chicuque and ESEmiliaDausse.

'''1.2 TRAINING OF PERSONNEL'''

This means that the very first priority in a coherent training process within the scope of this project will be to focus on teacher and make sure that on the long run they will be the driving force in the use of IT technologies in the educational process.
Such training activities will take place this month to prepare teachers to use IT technologies, on one hand to communicate with each others and the external world, and on the other hand to use these technologies to carry out they every tasks at school including simple activities like writing a report on also improve the quality of their lessons by using digital contents to support them in those task.

In the case of Inhambane, this task is easier and realistic to implement with the local resources, due to the presence of VSO that will be working for Education at least until February 2008, we will negotiate with DPEC-IN to renew the contract and reallocate him at DPEC-IN instead of the ESEDA to benefit not only people at ESEmiliaDausse but the whole community of schools and the DPEC-IN itself.

'''PHYSICAL LAYOUT'''

The ideal physical layout for such a network would be having a central high point where an access point would be installed and all school would connect to that access point as remote stations. As such a central high point was not available at that time the schools themselves were used as repeating points.
The way each school connects to the next one is the result of the best combination we could work out considering the line of sights that were available. For example the ES3Fev will only see points on the Maxixe side of the bay and not the ESEmiliaDausse which is also on the Inhambane side and at a much shorter distance that any point in Maxixe.
== '''1.	INTRODUCTION''' ==

The objective of the proposed project is to deploy a computer network to interconnect the Provincial Directorate of Education and Culture and 4 Secondary Schools.
In this first phase of the project, the Inhambane province was chosen, and the Provincial Directorate of Education and Culture (hereinafter DPECI) plus the 3 Schools located in the cities of Inhambane and Maxixe that are lecturing up to the 12th class were covered, namely:
	Secondary School 29 de Setembro in Maxixe, hereinafter ES29S;
	Secondary School Emília Dausse in Inhambane, hereinafter ESEDA;
	Secondary School of Muelé in Inhambane, hereinafter ESMUE.

Although it did not meet the above stated criteria, the Secondary School 3 de Fevereiro in Inhambane, herein after ES3FV, was also included, due to the need of creating a repeating point in the wireless network to reach the ESMUE.

== '''2.	DESCRIPTION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROJECT''' ==

'''2.1.	MAIN GOAL OF THE PROJECT'''

The immediate motivation for the deployment of this network was to share a single Internet connection and therefore reduce overall monthly costs in order to assure a long-term sustainability.
However, once such a network is deployed the potential to include other services, that would not be possible or at least viable if each school had just its own separate network, is tremendous, for example Voice over IP, shared Mail, Proxy and WEB servers, shared applications like virtual library, just to named a few.
On the other hand, once in place and functioning, such a network can easily grow just by having more schools connected to this initial backbone.
It is our firm conviction that, using the wireless technology implemented in this first phase the network could easily grow up to at least 100kms from its actual focus point which means probably a few tens of schools for the case of Inhambane province.
The other major goal of this project is to develop a solution that once tested can easily be replicated in other provinces all over the country.
